What's your RAS (Reticular Activating System) working for?

We can probably all agree that many pressures that we face on a daily basis are self-imposed.

We choose to worry about the things that we worry about and fixate on the things that we do. Sometimes those worries are justified, but sometimes they are irrational and are based on inability to process our emotions.

Our minds are extremely powerful, but it seems like we often forget this fact and give in to the negative voice of our inner critic.

Maintaining a positive outlook on life and being able to question and think through our feelings is extremely important, but sometimes tough to do. It is much easier to fall into a negative and worrisome place than to focus on positivity and hope.

But in order to maximize the time we have been given on this planet and create a life worth living, it is crucial to understand the importance of getting rid of toxic thoughts and out of negative headspace.

We can all agree that we are in charge of our minds, and therefore we have the power to achieve anything we want in life.

Our Reticular Activation System (RAS) is the necessary tool, which, if used properly, can help us with all of our goals, dreams and desires.

You are probably wondering what this RAS is.

Well, let us explain.

Have you ever been in a crowded room, talking to a person and automatically, it seems, drowning out all the other noises, conversations and sounds. But as soon as someone across the room says your name you hear it instantly.

Ever wanted to get a dog of a certain breed or a car of a certain type and color, and then suddenly see those everywhere you go?

You think that it is a coincidence or maybe Universe is trying to tell you something. When in fact, it is your Reticular Activating System (RAS) at work.

You know the saying - "Your eyes will find what your mind is looking for"? That's RAS in a nutshell. It is the attention center in the brain and it allows you to focus on the things that you deem important. It operates subconsciously, on autopilot, and that's why sometimes, you don't recognize when it is actively showing you exactly what your subconscious is programmed to look for.

Since you are in control of your mind, you are in control of the messaging for your RAS, and it is up to you to deliberately program the messages you send from your conscious mind. The Reticular Activating System is always listening and taking commands that influence your emotions and actions.

By deliberately choosing the messages, goals and affirmations, you instruct your conscious and subconscious mind to align and work towards the same outcome.

You probably wondered before why some of your desires or dreams didn't come true, and that's because you are most likely self-sabotaging yourself without even knowing it.

If your outer voice is determined to succeed, but your inner voice is often doubtful, fearful and questioning your achievements, your worth, or your ability to do something, your mind is getting conflicting messages.

And if you are conflicted with your messages, your mind is confused about your goals, which means you won't be able to achieve them.

The best and probably the worst part about your RAS is that it cannot distinguish between 'real events' and 'manufactured' reality.

In other words, it takes everything you tell it at fair value and acts on it. That's why it is so important to feed your RAS positive messages, good energy, and visualize the best outcomes that you want to achieve.

Your mind will focus on attracting to you just that, without you even realizing it. Your Reticular Activating System will bring into your life the things and people that you consciously and subconsciously think about.

You just have to align your messages and make them positive.

The best way to make sure your RAS is charged with positivity is to stay present and be cognizant of the thoughts and feelings you experience.

You have to really pay attention to how you feel and it can only be done while staying present. If something doesn't feel right, you have to immediately flip the script by focusing on the good and the outcome you want to experience.

You can practice your important speeches, decisions and performances before they happen by envisioning the positive outcomes in your mind, and RAS will activate the rest of your body to follow and achieve the outcomes you set out.

The 'pretend' practice improves your abilities and it really works as RAS believes whatever messages you give it.

Visualizing and setting goals works, because we command our RAS to pay attention to the things that will help us achieve those goals. Since your RAS is working 24/7, whether you like it or not, you might as well be intentional and positive about your messages and thoughts.
