3 Tips You Should Know When Starting Your Side Hustle

If you're looking for a way to make some extra money each month, a side hustle may be the answer.

A side hustle is a job that you do in addition to your regular 9-to-5 job. It can be anything from dog walking to freelance writing. It can be active or passive (and we totally love passive income)

Today, about one-third of American adults have a side hustle, according to a 2021 Harris Poll commissioned by Zapier.

A side hustle may not earn you an extra six figures each year, but the additional income can make life more comfortable or help you achieve financial goals, such as paying down credit card debt or padding your investment portfolio. If you're looking to start picking up more paid work, here are tips to help you get started.

First, start small and don't invest right away. The value of starting small can't be overstated. Making small steps to launch a side hustle today puts you well ahead of those who start tomorrow. Taking small steps also allows you to wisely invest your resources in the beginning.  Don't invest a big chunk amount of your savings just creating a website before you gain a single customer.

Second, identify your skill set and think about how you can apply it in a side hustle. What are you good at?  What tasks do you find joy in doing? What do people always come to you for help> These are the skills that you can leverage in a side hustle. For example, if you're good at marketing, you could start a side hustle as a social media consultant. Or if you're good at sales, you could start a side hustle as an e-commerce seller. There are endless possibilities here -- all you need to do is identify your skill set and think about how you can apply it in a new way.

Third, don't be afraid to ask for help. side hustles can be a lot of work, and it's ok to ask for help along the way. Whether you need help with marketing, accounting, or website development, there are people out there who can help you get started. And if you're not sure where to start, there are plenty of resources available online -- including Zapier's side hustle course -- that can help point you in the right direction.
